#Poetry4ChangeAfrica: Today’s Featured Poem is by Hauwa Shaffii Nuhu

A Poem by Hauwa Shaffii Nuhu

you are bed of comfort, minna
fluffy and subtle to me
and i leave you today, again
rolling on soft affection that is your bedsheets

reluctantly, i place my feet gingerly down you
standing, holding as bags,
dreams and light and sadness
moving farther away from you

i have tucked my heart in you safely
there is no lover more faithful than home
and even these roads that lay endlessly
cannot rip away my heart from you
cannot uncover all the clothes you dressed me with
cannot conjure up any consolation

i am here with you, minna
and you are here with me too
you are the accent i wear as badge
you are the glint in my eyes
you are this journey
you are in my laughter,
rich and deep and true and long

just like home

you are home
you are me
i am you
